Jae Gruenke is the founder and CEO of Intelligent Exercise LLC, The Balanced Runner™, and Edinburgh Feldenkrais. She is certified as a Feldenkrais Practitioner by the Feldenkrais Guilds of North America and the United Kingdom.
Jae first encountered the Feldenkrais Method during her professional dance career when, at age 25, chronic achilles tendonitis that failed to respond to medical treatment forced her to stop dancing and doctors told her she might never fully recover. A few months of Feldenkrais lessons returned her to walking and then to dancing without pain, and when she resumed her career she was a much better dancer than she’d been before her injury. Years later, as she was embarking on a new career in fitness, she realized she really wanted to help others in the way she’d been helped by the Feldenkrais Method, and so she enrolled in a professional training program in Montclair, New Jersey. She graduated in 2003.
Just prior to entering the Feldenkrais professional training, Jae founded Intelligent Exercise in New York City in 1998 to offer fitness and movement education to people who need to move more and move better. Her clients have ranged in age from 8 to 96 with goals including managing chronic illness, reducing pain, improving balance and mobility, and healthy aging. Currently her staff of fitness and movement education professionals make house calls in New York City. Jae founded The Balanced Runner™ in New York City in 2003 to bring the neuromuscular re-education techniques of the Feldenkrais Method to runners. Dubbed a “running form guru” by naturalrunningcenter.com, she has taught workshops and worked individually with runners ranging from beginner to world-class in a variety of settings in the US and the UK. In the spring of 2011, three-time Olympian Jen Rhines credited her work with Jae for helping her recover her form, allowing her to win two US road-racing championships.
